Jostedalen offers beatuiful nature and proximity to great nature experiences, surrounded by Jostedalsbreen and Breheimen National Parks. The landscape, carved by glaciers over thousands of years, with deep valleys, large glaciers and high peaks, tells the story how the glaciers have formed the landscape and the living thorugh years. There are several opportunities to explore the nature on your own or with a local, well experienced guide.
Nigardsbreen is one of the easiest accessible glaciers in Norway, where you can hike on the glacier between May and October. Kayaking on the glacial lakes at Styggevatnet or Tunsbergdalsvatnet, combined with glacier hiking on their neighbouring glaciers is an exciting activity a little later in season. Experienced guides will take you hiking summer and winter, with skiis or snow shoes. At Breheimsenteret, the Jostedalsbreen and Breheimen National Park Visitors Centre, interesting information on nature and culture is available in the interactive exhibition and film show.
Jostedalen is blessed with plenty of snow wintertime, and many options for skiing. 2-3 meters of snow is normal, and the ice falls freeze in November. There are cross country trails and heated pool open one day a week, and Lustrabadet is only 30 km away.
